The Dolomites, Italy Aut/Winter 2025

‘Returning to the Mountains’ reflects a personal homecoming to South Tyrol, where memories and landscapes intertwine. Created during three months in Oberbozen, the work traces a contemplative journey of observation, walking, and painting an exploration of how place, time, and emotion layer together like the shifting strata of the Dolomites.

This body of work unfolds as a contemplative journey of observation, walking and painting an attempt to translate the layered experience of being in place. Her sketchbooks are filled with marks made directly in the landscape: notes of colour, rhythm, and form gathered while walking the forest paths, mountain ridges, and winding roads between villages. Back in the studio, these fragments are distilled and abstracted, be- coming meditations on belonging, movement and memory.

To create a sense of the expansiveness and texture of the environments that inspire her, Alice works across mediums combining acrylic, pastel, charcoal and pencil to build layered, tactile surfaces. Her process reflects the geological rhythms of the Dolomites, where layers of pigment and mark become like the strata of rock shifting, weathered, and shaped over time by elemental forces.
