“A return to organic authentic & unaffected materials”

Slate is an independent publishing house which specialises in traditional letterpress publishing. Our namesake signifies a return to organic, authentic and unaffected material, as well as traditional methods of inscription and manual publishing processes. We represent the literal underdog, accepting submissions from all levels of experience, walks of life, and from those without literal representation.

Based in Plymouth with team members across the South West, we print our books in Devon and hand bind them in Cornwall.”

(September 2020- September 2021)

We are currently working towards creating an anthology book celebrating Dartmoor. We have handpicked five various tors across Dartmoor National Park which has and will further inspire my drawings and paintings for the project.

In December 2021 there will be an exhibition based at Ocean Studios, Plymouth.

Alice's first public open studio event showcases her participation in a project which has spanned the majority of this past year. She presents a visual exploration of the breathtaking and distinctive landscape of Dartmoor, after traversing its valleys, moors and woodland for many months. The physical journeys that Alice has undertaken, between tors, bracken and boulders, are reflected beautifully in the richness and vitality of her paintings, as well as her freedom to experiment with a wealth of techniques and styles. Elements of Alice's recent artwork will feature in Slate's Dartmoor Collection, to be unveiled in Spring 2022, which celebrates the flora, forna, and landscape of Dartmoor in the release of a literary anthology and assortment of traditional print pieces.
